Posting your address

can save time!

An address is unique to

each residence just as your

drivers license is to you.

Please post your address on

both sides of your mailbox

with 3 inch reflective letters

or larger.  It can make

a difference!

A new home whether it be

manufactured or built can

be a major challenge in this

day and time.  It seems

every day changes are be-

ing made to make life diffi-

cult when your dealing

with electrical permits,

sewer permits, building

permits, etc... What I hope

to accomplish with this

news letter is to make your

life a little less stressful,

and provide you with a step

by step process in how, and

where to go.

Step 1

Everything in any county

Tennessee begins with an

address.  Why? In 1991

our fore-fathers chose to

implement a 911 system

within, and for Overton/

Pickett County.   With that

addressing left the postal

service and was given to

to the 911 district.  A

basic map approach was

implemented in that as you

proceed down a road, lane,

street, or drive the number

would increase for every 25

ft. driven, and depending as

to which side of the road

you were on decided as to

whether you were given an

even or odd number.

Right side Even, Left side

Odd.  One should be to

take the number, subtract

100, and divide by 25 and

get the approximate dis-

tance down a road that

your home is located, and

upon which side of the

road.  Recently Overton,

and Pickett were awarded

a grant to re-map the

county using what is known

as GIS technology.  Some

will call this technology

GPS, or Global Positioning

Satellite technology.  Every

road in each county is cur-

rently being driven, and a

being driven, and a GPS

coordinate of that road

is being taken every 5 ft.

As well, each home is

marked by it's GPS coordi-

nate, and being placed on

the map, this gives an acc-

rate location of your resi-

dence within 3 meters on

the road, street, lane or

drive.  We still use the 25 ft

rule to assign the address.

Doing this makes a very

accurate map, this also

means as long as the map

is kept up, 911 should never

have to re-map the county

This map can one day in-

clude utility, water, sewer,

phone, fire hydrants, tax

plats, points of interest etc...

911 also has the capability

to locate cellular callers and

place blueprints of buildings

of buildings with each ad-

dress. So now you're

mapping expert, and you

see how, and why address-

ing is done the way it is. So

how do you get an address?

Simple here is what we re-

require.

A.  The driveway must be

      marked b y some type

      stake, flag, paint etc...

B.  You will need to drive 1

      stake in the center of

      where you will be

      building, or setting the

      home.

C.  Contact us by phone, or

      come by the office.

      Dial 931-823-8594/

      931-823-8593/ 931-

      823-1133, and ask for

      the secretary.  When

      she answers tell her you

      you would like to apply

      for an address, she will

      ask some simple questions

      like:

D.  Directions to the site?

E   Your Contact Number?

F.   Your Name?

G.   What type of structure

       you would like addressed?

H.   The color of the home?

I.    Whom your neighbors will be?

J.     Is the site marked?
